Great Matchups

Girls 5000 Meters

A great battle between Haley Pierce (Tatnall, Wilmington, DE), Erin Finn (West Bloomfield, MI) and Wesley Frazier (Ravenscroft, Raleigh, NC).  They will be fresh from running against each other in the 2 Mile at the Brooks PR Inv in Seattle, WA on Feb 26.  It was Pierce, Finn and Frazier, in that order, finishing behind 2011 Foot Locker XC Champ Molly Seidel.  They ran the #'s 2, 3 and 4 Two mile times in the US this indoor season. All have great credentials.  Finn was runnerup to Seidel at the 2011 FL XC meet, Pierce was the NXN runnerup, and Frazier is the leading returnee in this year's NBIN race, finishing 4th in last year's event.  Frazier had an incredible triple in the 2011 NBON, winning the mile and 5000m and finishing third in the 2 Mile.

Boys DMR

It will tough to stop CBA of Lincroft, NJ. They have 4 runners in the 1600m who have run between 4:13.49 and 4:20.08. And a 4x400 with 4 other guys who have run 3:19.61. It's doubtful the could get the national record since they don't have a "monster" anchor.  But, if anyone can challenge them, it would be St. Benedict's (Newark, NJ).  They DO have the "monster" anchor in Edward Cheserek, already having run 4:02 for a mile.  So Edward will be playing "catchup", and will have to come close to 4:00 in order for his team to have a chance at winning.

GIrls DMR

The injury to Samantha Nadel (North Shore, Glen Head, NY) negated the possibility of a national record here. But it could fall (11:35.43, Mountain View, Orem, UT, 2004) courtesy of Grosse Pointe Running Club (Grosse Pointe South HS, MI). The team has the "bookends" with twins Hannah and Haley Meier. both sub 4:49 for a full mile. Hannah won the Brooks PR meet on Feb 26 with a US-leading 4:43.29. Haley was third in 4:48.10.

Boys Long Jump

Devin Field (De Soto, TX) is the dominant force in what has been an "off year" for the event.  His 25-5.75 seasonal best is over a foot further than the next best jumper in the US.  The jump is =8 alltime.  He has a shot at Marquis Dendy's 2011 meet record of 25-9.25

Girls Long Jump

An incredible field with 4 girls over 20 feet and all within 1.5" inches of each other:

20-1.5              Sydney Conley, Fayetteville,AR
20-1.25            Carla Forbes, Newton North, Newtonville,MA
20-1                 Javanique Burruss, Louisa County, Mineral, VA
20-0.5              Shakeela Saunders, Nansemond River, Suffolk, VA
Sydney Conley is the daughter Mike Conley, the 1992 Olympic triple jump champion who still holds the US national record indoors (58-3.25)  Entered but unable to compete is Chyna Ries (Washington, Denver, CO).  She is the US leader at 20-5.75 (soph class record) but was injured on her first jump at the Simplot Games in Feb and is out for the season
