More than 5,300 athletes set 30+ records

It may have been hot in Greensboro all weekend, topped out by 94 degrees on Sunday -- but if there's one thing that was proven by the end of the 28th New Balance Nationals Outdoor, it was this: The athletes' performances during three days of scintillating action were even hotter.

It started with the blitz of Emerging Elite and Freshman meet records on Friday, continued as the Western Branch girls were racking up a record five relay titles, and peaked Sunday as Katelyn Tuohy took down the national record in the mile.

In total, the 5,300+ athletes -- from 47 states, plus D.C., Canada, Puerto Rico and more -- set three national records (plus one nat'l class record) and 28 meet records: 6 championship, 15 Emerging Elite, 4 Freshman, 2 Junior High and the Mixed 4x400 Relay!

This was our 9th outdoor nationals with New Balance as our partner and, in terms of the presentation and spectacle in and around Aggie Stadium, it was bigger and better than ever. Whether it was the giant photo-friendly logo display (with fog machine), the various clinics offered, or the powerful, new NSAF Alums at the Olympics display -- there has never been so much to see and do! Thanks to all of our wonderful partners and sponsors (scroll down below).

This was our 2nd year providing our NSAF RaceDay App -- with start lists, instant results, live streaming, event videos and select interviews -- among other features. It's a new way to follow NBNO for athletes, families, coaches, friends, fans, etc. You can still check it out HERE. Also, for the first time, our NBNO Meet Program was available exclusively as a PDF download. You can still read and download a copy of it right HERE (cover subject Katelyn Tuohy really came through, didn't she?).

You can review and celebrate many of the highlights of the meet through our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram posts, our Athlete of the Meet feature and our Meet Stats page, which analyzes the statistics and history of the meet in almost every possible fashion.

Great partners and sponsors

We had some incredible partners and sponsors with us last weekend at NBNO. As always, we're very grateful for our long-time partners from Eastbay. We hope all of you stopped by their booth last weekend and checked out all of their great training and racing apparel, footwear and much more.

VULCAM recorded over 600 performances from 7 different disciplines during NBNO that have been viewed hundreds of times already. You can now see all the performances from multiple viewpoints with the FREE VULCAM VUE app. Just download the app and select a video and swipe the screen to change the viewpoint. You can share your performance with your coaches, friends, family and, recruiters. Download the app today and start using the same technology the US Olympic training has beed using.

Three new partners joined us for the first time in Greensboro. We learned that JAWKU Speed is about performance, measuring speed, agility, and reaction time. Getting fast is a mental and physical commitment, making every effort count. You can visualize your performance over time on the app and get the accuracy of multi-thousand-dollar timing systems condensed into technology that you wear on your wrist.

We checked out AFTERSHOCKZ –BONE CONDUCTING HEADPHONES and experienced open-ear listening at their booth. These headphones are a must-have for runners, providing the ultimate level of safety and comfort!

And we picked up our free samples of ENERGICE, designed to give you a competitive edge by boosting hydration, energy and recovery through vitamins and potassium. It's a no-caffiene, no-stimulants and gluten-free solution to Cool Energy on the Go!

We were beyond thankful to have Primo Water, our Official Water Sponsor, and Gatorade, our Official Sports Fuel Provider, with us every second of the weekend. The temps were in the 90s and athletes were recovering with Gatorade and Primo Water all over the track and stadium.

And thank goodness for Chill Skinz, which offered instant cooling towels and headwear. We saw lots of their products at their booth and on the track, combating those brutal temps!

The best in high-quality "sticks" were everywhere, thanks to our Exclusive Baton Partner, RelayBatons.com. They provided commemorative custom batons to each relay team entered and All-American batons for the top 6 at the awards tent.

Athletes also took advantage of ROLL Recovery's "Recovery Zone" at NBNO, to stretch and roll out before, after, or between races and field events. They also enjoyed sampling and purchasing ROLL Recovery products at special discounted event pricing and signed up for giveaways.

Many were also seen checking out ElliptiGo at NBNO, the world’s first elliptical bicycle which delivers a fun, comfortable and effective cardiovascular workout experience that inspires people and improves their lives -- while eliminating impact on joints. Learn more at their website and Facebook Page.

Every athlete out there wore the fine competition bibs provided by Athlete Race Numbers, the Official Bib Printer of the NSAF. Meet Directors can check out Athlete Race Numbers for their own meets and use the handy NSAF16 code to receive a discount.

We also appreciated having on hand our Exclusive National Sports Medicine Research Partners from the Sanford Sports Science Institute (SSSI). Sanford Health – an integrated health system headquartered in the Dakotas – conducts research in conjunction with the NSAF to help with the development of future Olympic and World Championship hopefuls, including our 2nd annual special combined Project Javelin Gold and Project Triple Jump clinic August 9-12 at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls. The clinic will be open to any interested athletes and coaches.

JavFest launches again next weekend

The NSAF is preparing to host its 4th annual American JavFest -- an American version of the great Pihtipudas Javelin Carnival in Finland -- on Friday-Sunday, June 29-July 1, 2018 at East Stroudsburg High School in Pennsylvania.

The weekend will include competition at every age and ability level, plus great teaching and educational opportunities. This year, the Youth (Under-15) and High School athletes compete Friday, followed by the Open/Elite athletes on Sunday. Saturday's "Javelin School Day" is an opportunity to learn from coaches like Kim Hamilton, Scott Krall and Barry Krammes! Meanwhile, Friday's Roundtable Panel/Open Discussion is a chance to learn, hear stories and ask questions of these same mentors. 2-time Olympian Sean Furey is one of the featured guests this year.

Last year's JavFest featured thrilling winning performances by Cyrus Hotstetler (IAAF World Champs qualifier) and Ariana Ince in the Elite divisions, while Project Javelin Gold athletes Roman Mitchell (207-6) and Dana Baker (169-2) were the Elite High School champs. Stay tuned for coverage on our NSAF site and/or social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram).

Project Javelin in Germany!

For the 5th time in its 8-year history, the NSAF's Project Javelin Gold will be training with some of the world's best coaches and competing internationally in Europe. On four previous occasions since 2011, the Project trained and competed in Kourtane and Pihtipudas, Finland, with 1991 World Champ and Elite Coach Kimmo Kinnunen.

This year we will be in Jena, Germany for the first time, with training starting June 24 with LC Jena and Jen Javelin and continuing through the June 30 Javelin Festival competition. The coaching staff will include 2016 Olympic Gold Medalist Thomas Röhler and the NSAF's 3-time Olympian and former American record-holder Tom Pukstys. Attending will be returning Project Javelin Gold athletes Skylar Ciccolini, Zechariah Blake, Sam Hankins, Joe Nizich and Ty Hampton. Stay tuned for coverage on our NSAF site and/or social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram).
