US Top 10 HIGHLIGHTS

  • US#1 1:03.93 500 by Marcelle Preston (Largo, MD senior), beating a very deep field that also included US#2 1:04.51 by Anthony Coleman (Bowie, MD junior) and US#3 1:04.77 by Eric Ways (Woodberry Forest, MD senior) and three more in the low 1:05s – US#1-2-4-5-6-8 at the end of the day.
  • US#1 7:51.58 boys’ 4x800 by Blacksburg VA (Friday), dominating the field by 13+ seconds with legs of 1:58.8 by Michael Carter, 1:56.9 by Jacob McCoy, 2:01.9 by Flip Bishop, and 1:53.8 by Kenneth Hagen.
  • US#2 38.47 girls’ 300 (#18 all-time) by Shania Collins (Huntingtown, MD senior), defeating a fine US#4 38.82 by her Glen Arden club teammate Simone Glenn (Bullis, MD senior).  Collins made it a double with a meet record 6.97 55 (already US#2 6.95).
  • US#2 4:49.71 meet record girls’ mile (Sat.) / 2:11 4x800 leg (Fri.) double by Caroline Alcorta (West Springfield, VA senior).  The 800 leg anchored a 9:27.54 victory for West Springfield (already US#3 9:23.4h), while she won the mile by more than 12 seconds.
  • US#2 3:48.60 girls’ 4x400 by Milford Mill Academy MD, blowing the race open early with a 55-second opener by Toni Brown, and rolling over Wakefield NC’s US#3 3:53.02 and Parkland NC’s US#4 3:53.93.
  • US#2 1:40.42 girls’ 4x200 by Parkland NC, winning by more than a second over US#3 1:41.53 for Wakefield NC.
  • US#3 33.90 boys’ 300 by Noah Lyles (T.C. Williams, VA soph), with Rico Gomez (Douglass PG, MD junior) and Antonio Coleman (Bowie, MD junior) also under 35 at 34.41 and 34.70
  • US#6 1:15.83 girls’ 500 by Tia Robinson (Wakefield, NC junior), winning out of section 2 after the first section was won by London Freeland (Dunbar, DC senior) in 1:16.72.
  • US#7 2:30.04 by Stanley Davis (Glen Allen, VA senior), followed by Jacob McCoy (Blacksburg, VA junior) 2:30.89 and Terrell Green (Douglass PG, MD senior) 2:31.31.
  • US#7 44-9 girls’ shot put by Galissa Cause (Battlefield, VA senior), ruling by more than two feet.
  • US#7 10:45.00 girls’ 3,200 by Bonnie Angermeier (Blacksburg, VA junior), with senior teammate Claire Ewing-Nelson making it a 1-2 for the team with a 10:53.16.  Both were part of a Blacksburg quartet that ran between 5:03 and 5:10 in the mile Saturday, adding up to 20:22 and foreshadowing a great potential 4x1 Mile relay.
  • 7.51 boys’ 55 hurdles by Devon Hairston (Kennedy, MD senior), just missing his PR by .01 (US#6 7.50 coming in) and topping Felton Davis (Highland Springs, VA junior) 7.56.
  • 1:29.89 by DeMatha Catholic MD (already US#4 1:29.49), winning with room to spare as Largo MD edged Bowie MD for 2nd, 1:30.91 to 1:31.04.
  • US#10 meet record 12-8 girls’ pole vault by Jackie McNulty (Oakdale, MD junior), defeating Hannah Meador (Fluvanna County, VA senior) 12-0.
  • 6.39 boys’ 55 by Marcus Taylor (Highland Springs, VA junior) (already US#5 6.36), nipping 6.41 by Darryl Haraway (Dematha Catholic, MD junior) and 6.43 by Brenen Garrett (Wise, MD junior).
JUMP DOUBLERS
  • Javonne Antoine (Elizabeth Seton, MD senior) 39-10.25 girls’ triple jump Friday to dominate by more than two feet, then 17-10.5 Saturday to edge Sade Hargrove (Glen Allen, VA junior) 17-8.
  • Cameron Holden (Liberty Christian, VA senior) 6-6 boys’ high jump Friday, upsetting 6-10 performer John Seals (West Springfield, VA senior), and 22-6 long jump Saturday to defeat 55 champ Marcus Taylor (Highland Spring, VA junior) 22-3.
OTHER WINNERS
  • B-1 Mile – Matthew Novak (Deep Run, VA junior) 4:18.86, overtaking and outkicking Kenneth Hagen (Blacksburg VA senior) 4:19.23 in the final 100
  • B-3,200 – Louis Colson (Edison, Alexandria, VA senior) 9:21.12, beating Chase Weaverling (Poolesville, MD senior) 9:23.76
  • B-1,600 – Patrick Boddicker (Oakdale, MD senior) 4:27.57
  • B-4x400 – T.C. Williams VA 3:24.42 to win out of 2nd heat.  Bowie MD won the first section in 3:25.48 over Wakefield NC 3:25.62 after DeMatha Catholic MD and Largo MD both had stick or exchange problems.
  • B-TJ - Tyquan Rowley (Highland Springs, VA senior) 47-4, prevailing by a foot over the Asheville NC junior duo of Noah Tyson and Mekhi McGuyver.
  • B-Shot Put – Matt Zajac (E.C. Glass, VA senior) 57-0.5, narrowly defeating 61-footer Rashad Manning (Riverdale Baptist, MD junior) 56-11 and with two more within three inches.
  • B-Pole Vault – Bryce Simpson (Atlee, VA junior) 14-6 PR to top 15-footer Joseph Seo (Woodberry Forest, VA senior) on misses (also 14-6).
  • G-1000 – Alyssa Shupe (Jefferson Forest, VA junior) 2:58.31, outkicking US#4 2:56.13 performer Ellison Grove (Battlefield, VA senior) at 2:58.52
  • G-55 hurdles – Maggie Sullivan (Boonsboro, MD) 8.28, nipping Mary Mowoe (Tuscarora, VA senior) 8.30
  • G-1600 – Kate Birnbaum (Cosby, VA senior) 5:06.97
