Lacey Henderson, NSAF Blogger, Named to Team USA for Paralympic World Championships

by David Mitchell

On Tuesday, June 18, 2013 NSAF received the following great news from Lacey Henderson:

I'm so sorry my life has been insane with work, track meet, work, nationals, and work (haha) but I JUST found out I am selected to the 2013 US Paralympic World Championship Team this year to compete in Lyon, France. I recently broke the American Record in the 200m early this month, and just did again at Nationals this weekend in Long Jump, a 17 year old record! I came in 2nd for the 100m by .07 seconds, (and will make sure I WILL be the top American again by the end of this year) its been insane, I was also asked to jump in Birmingham UK to jump at the IPC Grand Prix final the end of this month.

I haven't really stayed still to write a full blog, but feel free to use this email as an update. I'm so excited to wear USA!!

We at NSAF are thrilled for Lacey!  She has overcome cancer, an amputation at age 9, and all of the barriers that go along with that to become the best-ever American Paralympian in her events.  We’ll keep you updated as Lacey’s experiences in Europe unfold.

If you aren’t yet familiar with Lacey’s amazing story, here is a link to David Mitchell’s interview with Lacey and Olympic Gold Medalist/Former World Record Holder Stacy Dragia.

Lacey’s upcoming competitions:

IPC Grand Prix Final in Birmingham, England June, 29, 2013

IPC World Championships in Lyon, France July 19-29, 2013
