by Joy Kamani

Jim Spier, Executive Director of the National Scholastic Sports Foundation, was honored recently at the Simplot Games in Pocatello, Idaho.  Spier received the 2012 Molinelli’s Jewelers Distinguished Service Award for his 21 years volunteering as the meet’s announcer and for his dedication and commitment to the event.

Meet officials cite Spier’s announcing, ability to keep the crowd excited and spur athletes to set better times and distances as  reasons why people keep returning to the Games each year.  When asked what he loves about being an announcer at Simplot Games, Spier said, “I can inform those who might not know the significance of an athlete and his or her performance.  Track athletes get very little recognition as compared to other high school sports.

Congrats Jim and our thanks to Donna Dye for the photo.
