America’s Medal Hopes at World Juniors

by Joy Kamani

by Jim Spier

The US team brought home 19 medals, including 13 gold medals, in 2004 from the World Juniors held in Grosetto, Italy. Based on performances at the USATF Junior Nationals, Jim Spier predicts that the US World Junior contingent should be very strong this year. Will the US exceed its 2004 pot or the 2008 net of 17, including 11 gold, or will we see another year similar to 2006 when the team captured only 11 medals?

The information in Jim Spier's projected medal tally is based on his best estimate of who will be selected to the Junior team as the official roster has not yet been posted. Jim will update his projections once the roster is published and throughout the event as the NSSF covers the 2010 World Junior Championships from Moncton, Canada, July 19-25th.
