We hear you! Qualifying for Outdoor Nationals Relays changed

by Joe Lanzalotto

Response to our announcement that All-Star relays would be accepted in the 2020 Outdoor Nationals has been outstanding!  There are many excited coaches, athletes and parents ... but also some consternation, given the difficulty in qualifying due to the abrupt end of of the outdoor season throughout the country.

We put our heads together and have decided to make qualifying easier for relay teams, both All-Star and the teams that traditionally compete at Outdoor Nationals.  Effective immediately, we will accept composite entries for ALL relays except the 4x100 and the 4x200!  AS we previously announced, the All-Star relays will compete in separate races from the traditional relays.

The rules for composites are simple: take the four best times for four runners from spring 2019 through spring 2020, add them up and see if you make the qualifying standard.  The usual rules otherwise apply: times for each team member must be from real meets, individual races; no splits, no dual-, tri- or quad-meet marks, no time trials.

Please be sure that when you do enter with a composite time, you list each team member’s time next to their name in the User Comments field. That will make it easier for us to approve your entry. As always questions should be directed to Info@NationalScholastic.org.

Stay safe!
