NSSF Rising Star Coach - KB Brown

Kwabene Brown, or “KB” as he is best known, is a hard to catch rising star – the perfect recipient of the first NSSF Rising Star Coach award.

KB is etching himself into the annals of this country’s top hurdles coaches. His life story includes track and field in each chapter and the book just keeps getting better and better. He attended and competed in track and field at Clemson University. He has coached at Westside High School in South Carolina since 1999 and with the Quick Striders Track club from 2000 until the present.

Since the start of his coaching career in 1999, KB has produced 20 South Carolina State track and field champions in the 100, 110, and 400 meter hurdles. His athletes own three of the four South Carolina state track and field hurdle records – only the boys 400 meter hurdle title has been elusive.

KB’s pupils also have earned the following impressive array of additional titles and recognitions:

  • Eight USA Track & Field and AAU Junior Olympic National Championships in the hurdles.
  • National record in the boys High School 4x110hh Shuttle Hurdle Relay in 2004.
  • Nike Indoor Nationals boys shuttle hurdle champion and meet record (2004).
  • Several Nike Indoor All American selections in the 60hh and 3 Shuttle Hurdle Relays since 2004.
  • Seven Nike Outdoor All American selections in the 100hh, 110hh, and 400lh since 2004.
  • One Track and Field News All American Selection in the 400lh.
  • One USA National team member (Jasmin Stowers, World Youth Championships, 2007).

KB lives in Pendleton, South Carolina with his wife, Katish Brown, sons Hasani and Micah, and daughter Sagirah.
