Honorary Referees - Louis Vasquez, Jr.

Louis Vazquez, Jr. is a Masters USATF Official who has been officiating for over thirty years.

Lou has been the recipient of several awards. In 1984, Lou was honored as an outstanding official for his contributions to youth, open and masters athletes. In 1993, he received the Kurt Steiner Award for outstanding officials. In 1995, he received the Howard Schmertz award, the highest honor given to any official in the Metropolitan Athletic Congress. He has also has received the Officials’ Service Award at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational and he is member of the Catholic High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame.

Lou served as MAC treasurer from 1989 to 1992. From 1995 to 1998, he served as the Official Association Chairman.

Over the years, Lou has officiated at many championship meets, including the New York State Championship; the Empire State Games; and the Public School, Catholic School and Private School meets. He also has – no surprise – officiated at countless meets here at the Armory!

Lou graduated from the Manhattan High School of Aviation Trades, received his degree in accounting from Brooklyn College, and earned an MBA from Pratt Institute. He worked as an engineer for New York City for 42 years!
