2015 WY Champs 7/17 Morning Report: 9 advance, several PRs

World Youth Champs – Day 3 morning

Discus Qualifying -Men
(automatic qualifying 191-11)

Adrian Piperi (The Woodlands, TX), who won the shot put two days ago, got the auto qualifier on his third throw, 192-4.  Gabriel Oladipo (Fort Bend Hightower, Missouri City, TX) also got the auto qualifier on his third throw, 192-2.  Both are residents of the Houston area and are separated by 50 miles (and 2” in their throws).  They ranked 6th and 7th overall in the qualifying round.


Heptathlon – Day 1

Caice Lanovaz (Foothill, Pleasanton, CA) PRd in the hurdles (14.44) and equaled her PR in the HJ (5-3.25) to rank 27th after 2 events.  Jordan Fields (Creekside, St. Johns, FL) had a very good hurdles race (14.07) but faltered in the high jump, clearing only 5-3.25 (against her PR of 5-8).  She ranks 23rd after 2 events.  In the hurdles there were 9 girls who ran under 14.0, ranging from 13.43 to 13.93.

200m Round 1 –Women

Candace Hill (Rockdale County, Conyers, GA), the 100m champion, easily won her heat (23.93).  Lauren Rain Williams (Oaks Christian, Westlake Village, CA) fared the same, winning her heat in the fastest time of the day, 23.41.  Also qualifying of note, Kayla Richardson of the Phillipines who is a student at Walnut HS (CA).  She ran 24.41 and qualified.

   

200m Round 1 – Men

Josephus Lyles (TC Williams, Alexandria, VA) won his heat in 21.09, the fourth fastest qualifier overall.  Maxwell Willis (Bowie, MD), though finishing second, had the second fastest time of the day, 20.99, a personal best.

    

Pole Vault Qualifying -Men
(automatic qualifying 16-2.75)

Zach Shugart (Bishop Blanchet, Seattle, WA) could manage only 15-9 and finished 16th overall and obviously did not advance.  Armand Duplantis (Lafayette, LA), representing his mother’s home country Sweden, passed until 16-00.75, made that on his first attempt, then made the auto qualifier on his first attempt.


Triple Jump Qualifying -Women
(automatic qualifying 42-00)

A pleasant surprise from Tara Davis (Agoura, CA), who got a big PR on her third jump to automatically qualify.  She jumped 42-8.25, #2 US High School and was the third qualifier overall.  La Jarvia Brown (Alton, IL) just missed qualifying though she jumped a personal best 41-9.75.  She finished 14th overall and missed the finals by ¼ inch.
