Women’s 400m Hurdles Round 1

Brooke Jaworski, who just finished her junior year at Wausaw West HS (WI) was the 6th fastest qualifier overall, running 58.42.  She now owns 2 of the top 5 times in that event for US High Schoolers.  Jurnee Woodward (LSU) also advanced to the semis, running 58.91.

Women’s Shot Put Qualifying

Group A - With Alyssa Wilson (UCLA) the only athlete from the US ever competing in three weight events, we figured she would just have to throw one time to get the auto qualifying mark then rest up for her finals.  She did so in the discus yesterday, but took two throws in the shot.  She got the auto qualifier (50-10.25) on her second attempt, throwing 55-10.25 to lead her group.

This is not the first time Alyssa Wilson competed in three events.  She did so at the 2017 New Balance Nationals Outdoor while a senior at Monsignor Donovan HS (Toms River, NJ)

Shot Put 1st 54-10.75 Discus  1st 179-07 Hammer 2nd 180-00 (second to Jillian Shippee, also on the U20 team)

Group BLindsay Baker is a real “find”.  As a senior at East Liverpool HS (OH) she had a best of 48-00.75, not going beyond 42 feet until mid-May of 2017.  The she went on to Ashland U and, under the tutelage of Jud Logan, improved to 56-01.75, winning the Jesse Owens Classic in May of this year.  She has red-shirted at Ashland in 2018.

Lindsay Baker’s progression

2015 HS Freshman  29-05
2016 HS Sophomore  32-04.25
2017 HS Junior  38-02.25
2018 HS Senior  48-00.75
2019 College Freshman 56-01.75

Alyssa Wilson led all with her 55-10.25 and Lindsay Baker, getting the auto qualifier on her second throw was fourth overall at 51-09.25.

Men’s 400m Round 1

Jonathan Jones (Barbados) led all qualifiers at 46.05.  He will be at the U of Texas in the fall.  Both Trey Fields (Baylor) and Umajesty Williams (Arizona) got auto qualifiers, running 47.08 and 47.16 respectively.

Women’s 100m Round 1

Brianna Williams (Northeast, Oakland Park, FL), the US high school leader but a citizen of Jamaica, led all qualifiers with 11.28.  Twanisha Terry (USC) was third overall (11.37) and Daija Lampkin (Alabama) fifth (11.44).

Men’s Hammer Throw Qualifying

Group A – Steven Feldman (Pennsylvania) could manage only 193-2, 30 feet below his PR.  He finished 29th overall.  The leader was Jake Norris (Great Britain/LSU) at 252-5.

Group B – Twin Michael Feldman (Pennsylvania) did not fare much better, throwing 210-00, 20 feet below his best.  He finished 24th overall.
