2008 Caribbean Scholastic Invitational

STAFF


The NSSF will provide a fully qualified and experienced Staff to accompany the Team NSSF.


Team Managers:

Jim Spier, Executive Director, NSSF. Jim is the key ingredient to the success of the NSSF and its three marquee events: the Nike Indoor Nationals, the Nike Outdoor Nationals and the Great American Cross-Country Festival. He is a co-founder of the NSSF. Most are familiar with Jim's National Top 5 List which is updated at least weekly and published on the NSSF website as well as on Dyestat.com and co-statistician with John Blackburn of the US Junior List.


Joy Kamani is a member of the NSSF Board and the recruiter of female talent for both the NSSF events. Joy has coached youth track and field and accompanied the USATF National Youth Team to the World Youth Championships in Poland, Hungary and Canada as Assistant Coach, Assistant Manager and Head Manager respectively.


Robin Beamon, is an NSSF Board Member. She is intricately involved in the sport of track and field as Director of the Miami-Dade Recreational Department and an active member of USA Track and Field and the AAU. Robin has organized and hosted several national level meets including the USATF Junior Olympics and Youth Nationals.


JacquƩ Kendall, has chaperoned hundreds of student athletes over the years including several NSSF alumni such as Monique Hennegan, Tonya Williams, and Andre Cason. Her coaching resume includes Assistant Coach at Manor, Bethel and Kecoughtah High Schools. In 2005 she was inducted into the Livingstone College Athletic Hall of Fame for reviving its girls track program. This is her second tour of duty with Team NSSF



Team Coaches:

Paul Limmer is a member of the NSSF Board of Directors and a former coach at Mepham High School in New York where he left behind an incredible winning record and an incredible legacy of respect, including several Foot Locker Cross Country finalists and one national champion. He returns to CSI for a second time.



Cedric Walker has been the Head Coach of the Flower City Track Club in Rochester, NY since 1985. His club athletes have represented the United States on our Olympic, World Outdoor, World Indoor, World Cup, Pan-Am Games, Pan-Am Juniors and World Juniors teams and he has developed 121 All-Americans (NCAA, NJCAA & HS).Walker has traveled the world as a member of several international teams represented the United States. His national assignments include, Management Assistant, 2004 Olympic Games, Assistant Coach, USATF Team, World University Games (1993), Head Manager, USATF World Jr. Team, Annecey, France (1998), Assistant Coach, USATF Jr. World Team, Kingston, Jamaica (2002), Assistant Coach, USATF World Team, Paris, France (2003), Assistant Coach USATF Indoor World Championship Team, Hungary (2004), Head Relays Coach 2004 National Junior Team, Groseto, Italy, Assistant Manager, World Team, Helsinki (2005) and Assistant Manager, World Team, Moscow (2006)


Kristi Reiger is the girls track and field and cross-country coach at Roosevelt High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Her team has earned invitations to two Nike Team Nationals Cross-Country Championships.



Medical Staff:


Medical Doctor:

Dr. Rob Jones is an orthopedic surgeon in Raleigh, North Carolina and is a member of the NSSF Board. During his tenure as NSSF Medical Director for NSSF events, Dr. Jones has developed a multidisciplinary medical team similar to those used by USATF to accompany national teams abroad. This medical team , comprised of MD's, Athletic trainers, Sports Massage Therapists and Chiropractors, is present at all national NSSF meets. Dr. Jones is a Tennessee native and was a varsity letterman pole-vaulter at UNC Chapel Hill. He graduated Emory University School of Medicine and completed his Orthopaedic training at Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr Jones has also served a Team physician for a number of high schools, colleges and professional sporting organizations including South East Raleigh HS, Leesville Road HS, Campbell University, Carolina Cobras Arena Football, The North Carolina Ballet and USA Baseball.



Sports Psychologist:

Dr. Margaret Ottley is an Associate Professor of the division of Sport Psychology/Pedagogy in the department of Kinesiology, College of Health Sciences, West Chester University of Pennsylvania. USA Track & Field (USATF) has recently selected Dr. Margaret Ottley as sport psychology practitioner for the 2008 Olympics Games.  Her extensive experience in her field derives from her work with elite and non-elite athletes at a youth, junior, collegiate and senior levels and with coaches and parents.  Dr. Ottley's sport psychology services are in regular demand by USATF, Trinidad & Tobago Olympic Committee and the BWSF.  She has traveled with elite sport teams (2002-present) to most major international championships including the Commonwealth Games (Manchester, England & Melbourne, Australia), Pan American Games (Dominican Republic & Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), IAAF World Youth Games (Marrakech, Morocco), IAAF World Junior Games (Beijing, China) and the Olympic Games (Athens, Greece), Pan American Junior Games (Sao Paulo, Brazil).   She has presented at the 2006 USATF Annual Convention.  Dr. Ottley spoke on the mental preparation of coaches and athletes for the IAAF 2007 World Track & Field Championship (Osaka, Japan) and the 2008 Olympic Games (Beijing, China). 

Her early experience in sports as an elite international field hockey player/ coach and as a youth track and field athlete in Trinidad and Tobago have also influenced her unique perspective of sport psychology consulting.



Chiropractor & Massage Therapist

Dr. Jeanette Anderson and Claudia "Sparky" Chapel. Its impossible to separate these two as they work in tandem with the athletes. Dr. J and Sparky use their magic fingers along with sincere caring and love of athletes in our sport at all NSSF meets. They have traveled with USATF national teams to World Juniors, Pan Am Juniors, World Championships and to the Olympics.



Athlete Liaisons:

Patrick Helland: Pat started volunteering in 1999 with the NSSF while a student at North Carolina State University where he was a stand-out runner and our outdoor championships were held at the University's track complex. This is his second trip to Puerto Rico with Team NSSF.
