The National Scholastic Sports Foundation has announced the team members for the Third Caribbean Scholastic Invitational. Twenty-eight male and female student-athletes have been selected, all of whom have recently completed the freshman, sophomore or junior years in high school (see below).

This is the fourth year that the NSSF is sponsoring a team to the meet, held in Carolina, Puerto Rico (a suburb of San Juan) and partially sponsored by that city. Teams from Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands, Martinique, Guadalupe, and others are expected to be in attendance.

The majority of the team members competed at the Nike Indoor Nationals earlier this year in Boston, MA. There are two freshmen, three sophomores and the remainder are juniors. They represent the states of Virginia, New Hampshire, New York, Missouri, Texas, North Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, Delaware, Maryland, Illinois, New Jersey, Ohio, Michigan, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.

Team NSSF arrives in San Juan on Wednesday, June 10, 2009. Besides the competition, there are social, cultural and educational activities planned for the team as well. The competition takes place on Saturday, June 13, 2009. The team returns home on Sunday, June 14, 2009.

An experienced staff of 10, including a medical doctor, massage therapist, chiropractor, coaches and support individuals, will accompany the team.

The meet is actually open to any high school student in the U.S. or Caribbean. Athletes may choose to come on their own.
