It's NB Nationals Weekend!
The 17th New Balance Nationals Indoor (NBNI), our renowned championships for the country’s best preps, will again be held at the Fort Washington Armory in New York City, Friday-Sunday, March 11-13, 2016. Entries for the meet are tracking to be close to 4,000 athletes coming from more than 40 states, Canada, the Caribbean and Cuba.
Special thanks to the absolute best partner we could wish for -- our friends at New Balance for working with us to make this the most fantastic weekend of high school track and field ever, to Eastbay. our Presenting Sponsor and all of those who work tirelessly for us here at the NSAF throughout the weekend.
U.S.-leading preps in all but one event and scores of other nationally-ranked standouts will be looking to run, hurdle, jump, throw and walk their way to titles in 94 boys’ and girls’ Championship, Emerging Elite and Freshman events. Seventeen athletes which have already represented Team USA in World Junior, World Youth and Youth Olympic championships will be on hand, as will more than two dozen previous New Balance National indoor or outdoor individual champions.
Every event and athlete is special at NBNI, but here are some athletes, events and storylines to pay particularly close attention to this weekend! Check them out on our website.

Four Cuban athletes competing at NBNI!
One of the most exciting things about this year's New Balance Nationals Indoor is that the Cuban athletics federation has sent four outstanding high-school age athletes to compete with us here in New York. All four competed with our Team NSAF athletes at last year's Caribbean Scholastic Invitational in Cuba and represented their nation at the 2015 IAAF World Youth Championships in Cali, Columbia. They are:
- Cristian Napoles - WY Champs triple jump gold medalist and #1 on WY list for 2015 at 54-0.
- Yanna Anay Armenteros - #1 on '15 WY triple jump list at 44-3.25, won bronze at WY champs.
- Roxanna Gomez - 52.79 PR in 400, 5th at WY Champs, 6th at Pan Am Juniors.
- Edel Rogelio Amores - 21.04 PR in 200, 10.51 in 100; placed 7th in WY 200 final.

We are planning to hold a press conference with the Cuban athletes at 11:30 am Saturday in the theater room at The Armory. All media, CSI alums and athletes, coaches and families interested in competing at CSI are welcome to attend.

Tribute to NSAF Co-Founder Mike Byrnes -- This is our first NBN meet since our NSAF co-founder Michael Byrnes passed away at his home in Virginia this past December 26. Mike and Jim Spier, having worked together since the late 1970s, founded the NSAF in 1989 and everything we've been able to do together since then has so much to do with all of the great qualities he brought to our organization. We hope you'll check out the cover story tribute to Mike in our NBNI meet program if you are with us in New York and, in either case, check out the wonderful tribute from Gordon Peterson -- one of his former athletes at Wantagh HS in New York -- HERE on our website.
