Team USA Takes on the Hemisphere in Medellin

The NSAF will be provinding full coverage of the XVII Pan American Junior Championships being held in Medellin, Colombia this week- August 23 -25th. The event, which is open to athletes under the age of 20 years old, is regarded as the best test of junior track and field strength in  North, Central and South American countries and the Caribbean.

Team USA will consist of 77 athletes selected at the USATF Junior Nationals earlier this summer and is a mix of both high school and college freshmen.

NSAF coverage will include event-by-event analysis by Jim Spier, video interviews and articles by Steve Underwood and photos by Joy Kamani.

Competition begins Friday with sessions in the morning and early evening.  NSAF coverage will be available on our website, FaceBook and Twitter.

 


Registration is open for the  Great American Cross Country Festival, the American Independent Schools XC Challenge and the Robert Shumake HBCU Challenge set for October 5th in Cary, NC. 

The events include a full slate of races, including the prestigeous New Balance Race of Champions.  The face painters, jugglers, clowns, drummers and other entertainment will again add to the festival atmostphere as we host an expected 4000- plus athletes.

Project Kultan Keihas is ooking for male and female sophomore javelin throwers with  the most potential to be national class. The athletes selected will be part of the project and will have their way paid to the two domestic javelin clinics (Oct and Dec) and be part of the team that is taken to Finland next summer for immersion in the javelin culture and high intensity training and competition. Applications are due by September 1, 2013.  More information...

The two domestic clinics in October and December are open to any high school athlete.  Both clinics will be held in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  Finland's National Coach, Kari Ihalainen will return to join Jeff Gorski and Olympic medliast, Bill Schmidt for the October clinic scheduled for Oct. 17-20.  The  second clinic is scheduled for December 27-30 with Finland's National Junior coach and 1991 World Champion, Kimmo Kinnunen.   Registration is open.

 


The deadline for  the Cedric Walker Development Grants is rapidly approaching.  Please get your applications in by  September 1st.  These grants are a major part of the continuing legacy of Cedric Walker who passed away earlier this year and are open to high schools, clubs and individuals.  Grants will be awarded by September 15th.  Please read the grant requirements carefully before submitting your application.
