Williams & Humphrey - AOW & NBNI Athletes of the Meet

This week's Athletes of the Week are also the New Balance Nationals Indoors Athletes of the Meet.

Female - Kendell Williams, Kell HS, Marietta, GA

Coming into the meet, the odds were that Kendell had a shot at breaking the National Record in the pentathlon.  She did that and then some, becoming the first 4000 point female pentathlete ever, scoring 4068 points.  Kendell shattered the record by Shana Woods of Long Beach Poly HS, CA, who scored 3924 points in 2006.  In one of the penthatlon events, the high jump, she cleared 5-11.5, claiming the U.S. high school lead.  And she was the runnerup in 3 other events in the Championship division:  high jump, long jump and 60m hurdles.

Male – Marlon Humprhey, Hoover HS, Hoover, AL

Having never competed in the pentathlon before, it was questionable as to how well Marlon would do.  He did quite well indeed, not only winning with 3890, the 13th best pentathlon ever for a high schooler.  Marlon, a junior,  also was runnerup in the 60m hurdles, clocking 7.76 for =#2 in the country for 2013.
