The most important things to know in Greensboro!

Welcome to the 2018 New Balance Outdoor National Championships. The National Scholastic Athletics Foundation is thrilled to be hosting the finest high school track and field athletes in the nation, June 15-17. 

Whether it is your first time coming to the national championships in Greensboro NC, or if you have competed here before, here are some things you are going to need to know before you arrive:

Please do not rely on other media outlets for the schedule.  We cannot guarantee that any other sites have updated their websites as we make changes.


ENTRIES/START LISTS/HEAT SHEETS

Entries and preliminary start lists have been posted and will be updated at least daily each successive day of the meet, with seeding and specific race assignments ON THIS PAGE and will also be posted at the registration site at Irwin Belk Track.


WAIVER AND RELEASE

A signed meet waiver is required for participation in the New Balance Nationals Outdoors. For athletes under the age of 18 years, the waiver must be signed by a parent, legal guardian or other person with the legal capacity to sign on behalf of the parent or legal guardian of the athlete. Athletes 18 years of age and older may sign the waiver themselves.
Waivers may be returned to us either:

1. In person at Packet Pick-up at NBNO. Packets will not be distributed without the signed waiver and athletes who do not present the signed waiver will not be permitted to compete at the meet; or

2. Only for groups of 4 or more a coach or other responsible party may collect waivers for each member of his or her team and submit them as a group attached to one email and sent to waivers@nationalscholastic.org. The team name must be included in the subject line of the email.

RACE DAY APP

ADMISSION/COACHES WRISTBANDS

Admission for athletes is via their competition number for all meet days. Each school will receive one coach's admission bracelet per team of two or more athletes. For individual or unattached athletes, an admission bracelet will be given if the person accompanying the athlete is the actual athlete's team coach. When coaches pick up the packet with their individual athlete, we would appreciate it if you brought your state coaches association card, USATF coaches registry or some type of supporting documentation or credential that shows you are a coach. This will expedite the packet pick up process. All parents accompanying athletes will be expected to purchase an admission ticket at the prices below. All general admission tickets can be purchased at the door, cash or credit.

If you pre ordered tickets, they can be picked up at the advanced ticket booth at admissions.

Purchase your tickets in advance and avoid the long admissions lines on-site. Purchase now and we will have your tickets waiting for you at the ADVANCED TICKET booth on site. The price is the same and it will save you time entering the stadium.

PACKET PICK UP/BACKPACK INFO

North Carolina A&T @ Aggie Stadium 
Thursday, June 14th:  3PM-8PM
Friday, June 15th: 8AM-8PM (venue open 8am)
Saturday, June 16th: 8AM-7PM (venue open 8am)
Sunday, June 17th: 7:15am-3pm (venue open 7:15am)

Packet pick-up is located in southwest corner, to the right of the main entrance to the stadium.
This area will also act as athlete/coach entrance.
All spectators enter through the main ticket gates under the press box on west side of venue.

Please do not bring your entire team to the packet pickup line. 
Packets are arranged in alphabetical order by team/club name or by individual, depending on how you registered.
Athlete bib numbers will be in packets. Bibs allow athletes entry to the facility.
Athlete bib numbers must be worn on the front of the jersey (except pole vault).
To receive backpack, take ENTIRE bib number to backpack pick up.  Tickets must be attached to bib number to be redeemed.  DO NOT remove backpack ticket from bib.  New Balance personnel will remove the ticket to complete the process.
Backpack pick up is directly behind packets, enter the gate and turn left.
Backpack customization is directly across from backpack pick up.


COACHES HOSPITALITY ROOM

All coaches are invited to visit the hospitality room for coaches presented by our partners at New Balance.  The hospitality room will be located in the locker room in the fieldhouse (look for the signs).
Hours for hospitality room will be:
Thursday: 2pm-5pm
Friday: 10am-5pm
Saturday: 10am-5pm


REPLACEMENT BIBS

Replacement bib fee for lost or stolen bib number is $20.00. Note that replacement bib numbers are NOT eligible for a souvenir backpack.


LOST OR STOLEN BACKPACKS

NSAF and New Balance are not responsible for lost or stolen backpacks.  Please take advantage of the free bag check during your event.  Bag check is located beside the clerking area.


FINALISTS AND AWARDS

Immediately after each event final, the top 6 finishers must report to awards area on the infield.
Championship rings will be awarded to each winner of a Championship competition (including relay teams).
Coaches of champions in the Championship division may purchase Championship rings for themselves.  Rings can be ordered at the Awards table by obtaining a field pass at the media tent outside of the infield at the top of the 100 meter finish.
Medals will be awarded to the first six places in all event finals. Top six places in Championship events will be named NSAF All Americans (this does not apply to Emerging Elite and Freshman Events).


RELAY BATONS

The NSAF is proud to work with our exclusive baton partner relaybatons.com to provide commemorative custom batons to each relay team entered. These do not need to be used in the meet. Commemorative All-American batons (top 6 relay teams in the championship relays) will be handed out at the awards tent immediately following each relay.
There will be no Emerging Elite or Freshman awards ceremonies. Awards can be picked up at the Awards Table.
 

RELAY CARDS

All coaches must fill in relay cards and submit to the clerk at least 60 minutes prior to the scheduled start time of each relay. Relay cards are available at the clerking area.
 

HOTEL SHUTTLES TO THE TRACK and REGISTRATION

The NSAF is pleased to once again offer free a shuttle service between both meet hotels -- the Marriott and Sheraton -- and the Irwin Belk Track. Shuttle schedule can be found here: http://www.nationalscholastic.org/nbon/shuttles/.


MEDICAL

NSAF medical staff will be on site all weekend with physicians, trainers, and massage therapists. Medical is located next to clerking in the northeast corner of the track, near the 200m start.
Fluids:  Greensboro can be very warm and humid!  We will provide fluids at each field event as well as on the infield near the finish line.  We strongly encourage athletes to bring a water bottle which they can fill from the dispensers at the competition areas.


INCLEMENT WEATHER

In the case of inclement weather, the meet will be postponed when meet management and meet officials deem necessary.  The event will continue when weather passes.  Please follow all information from public address announcers and go to the NSAF Race Day App for any and all updates and changes.


WARMUP

Athletes may warm up in the designated warm up area in the field on the east side of the stadium. All warm ups must be done between the flagged areas.


SPIKES

Only ¼” pyramid spikes are allowed on the track.


ATHLETE CHECK IN/CLERKING

All athletes must report to the clerking area at least 60 minutes prior to start of event. Clerking area is located in the northeast corner of the stadium. No PA announcements or event calls will be made.  An adjusted check in schedule will be posted in the warm up area.  Athletes and coaches are responsible for knowing the event schedule.


STARTING BLOCKS

Per USATF rules, starting blocks MUST be used in events whose distances are 400 meters or less and athletes must start in a fully “down” position.


SHUTTLE HURDLE RELAY

The passing zone begins 1.22 meters in front of each starting line. The outgoing runner must be motionless and may not leave the starting line until the incoming runner’s torso breaks the plane of the passing zone  The hurdle heights and distances between hurdles from the 100/110m hurdles are used. The maximum number of teams per section is four.


FIELD EVENTS

Flight assignment by performance list: best flight last, random within the flight.


TRACK EVENTS

(800m, Mile, 2 Mile, Relays)
Heat assignment by performance list, with "fastest" heat running last.


THROWING IMPLEMENTS

Implement inspection will be conducted at the site of the competition beginning 2 hours prior to the scheduled start of each event. Implement inspection will be available from 11am-6pm Friday, 8am-6pm Saturday, and 8am-1pm on Sunday.  Implement inspection is located in the shed behind the hammer cage.


VAULT POLES

Vault poles can be stored under the bleaches or in the shed by the discus/hammer area. There is no weight certification for poles.  USATF rules do not require it.


FALSE START

One false start disqualifies the person who committed the offense.


PROTESTS

Protests must be in writing and submitted at the Solutions Tent in the front of the stadium next to Packet Pickup. For clarity and expediency, please use the Protest Form which may be downloaded HERE or picked up at the Solutions Tent. Written protests must be accompanied by a $50 cash-only protest fee, which will be refunded if the protest is determined in the protester's favor.  Protests which are denied may be appealed to the Jury of Appeals. That request may be submitted at the Solutions Table accompanied by a $50 cash-only fee which will be refunded if the original protest decision is reversed. The decision of the Jury of Appeals is final.

Protests must be filed within 30 minutes of the posting of the results of a given event. The fee is refunded if the protest/appeal is upheld.


SECURITY

We will maintain an area for the temporary storage of your articles of clothing while you are racing. It will be a secured area. Please do not leave any of your personal items unattended.


ACCESSIBILITY TO TRACK PRIOR TO MEET

Athletes are welcome to use the track and field facilities during non-competition hours, from noon through 7:00pm, Thursday, June 14.


ELECTRICAL DEVICES

Athletes will not be permitted to use any type of electrical devices in the competition area, including cell phones.


TENTS

Teams may place tents in top 10 rows on the visitors side of the track (the stands not on the press box side). Tents cannot be placed in the walkway areas, on the press box side of the bleachers or outside the gates leading into the track.
