NSAF Select Meet: 76th Chandler Rotary Invite Highlights

Sprints/Hurdles: Strong hurdle doubles for Mecham, Johnson
  • 14.23(-0.4w) 100mH and US#2 meet record 42.02 300mH girls’ hurdle double for Elsja Mecham (Summit Academy, UT sr).  Mountain Pointe athletes took the next 2 spots in the 100H, with seniors Autumn Smith 14.45 and Danielle Burns 14.83.  In the 300H, Breanna Bernard-Joseph (Eleanor Roosevelt, CA soph) was 2nd at 42.98 and Mountain Pointe’s Smith was back for 3rd at 43.47.
  • 14.41(-0.2w) 110mH, 37.69 300mH boys’ hurdle double for Cody Johnson (El Paso Franklin, TX sr).  Trey Johnson (Tolleson Uni jr) was a strong 2nd in the 110s at 14.47, while Brandon Jamison (Chaparral sr) took a tight battle for 2nd in the 300H at 38.54.
  • US#4 (wind-legal) 21.22(+0.2w) boys’ 200m dash by Dartez Hamlin (El Paso Burges, TX sr), with Alejandro Goldston (Volcano Vista, NM sr) at 21.57 taking the runner-up spot.
  • US#8 47.45 boys’ 400m dash by Caleb Ojennes (Palmer Ridge, CO sr), with Gabriel Navarro (El Paso Franklin, TX jr) and Christopher Wilcox (Eleanor Roosevelt, CA sr) also under 48 at 47.92 and 47.97.
  • 55.09 girls’ 400m dash by Christine Williford (Liberty, CO sr), nearly a second up on Alena Ellsworth (Highland jr) at 55.98.
  • 10.75(-0.4w) boys’ 100m dash by Marcus Parker (Centennial, NV sr), winning a close battle with Alejandro Goldston (Volcano Vista, NM sr) at 10.78 and three others between 10.84 and 10.86.
  • 12.05(-0.5w) girls’ 100m dash for Alexis Center (South Mountain sr), with Lashira Tremble (Liberty, CO sr) from the previous section 2nd overall at 12.18(-0.7w).
  • 25.00(+0.1w) girls’ 200m dash by Anaya Bailey (Chandler jr), placing ahead of Symone Wright-Flowers (North Canyon sr) at 25.13(+0.0) from the previous section.
Jumps: NSAF’s Mack is twice runner-up
  • Wind-legal US#1 41-0(+0.0w) girls’ triple jump by Nura Muhammad (Mountain Pointe jr), followed by NSAF Project Triple Jumper Arielle Mack (El Paso Burges, TX jr) at US#2 40-1.25.
  • 46-6(+0.0w) boys’ triple jump by Connor Watson (Desert Vista sr), just an inch ahead of Avery Barnes (Hamilton sr) at 46-5(+0.0w) and two more up on Kyle Brost (Dobson sr) at 46-3(+0.0w).
  • 16-0 boys’ pole vault by Kyle Downey (Mesquite sr), half a foot up on Connor Stevens (Hamilton sr) and Mitchell Warnock (Corona del Sol jr), both at 15-6.
  • 12-3 girls’ pole vault by Taylor Alexander (Vail Christian, CO sr), six inches above Ally Keil (Mesquite sr) at 11-9.
  • 5-8 girls’ high jump by Quintella Johnson (St. Mary’s Catholic jr), two inches ahead of Shannon Fritz (Desert Vista sr) and Hannah Nance (San Dimas sr), both at 5-6.
  • 22-6(+0.0w) boys’ long jump for Darius Chandler (Chandler sr), two inches clear of David Cunningham (Highlands Ranch sr) at 22-4(+0.0w).
  • 18-2 girls’ long jump by Mia Corners (Gila Ridge fr), winning a close 3-way battle with Arielle Mack (El Paso Burges, TX jr) at 18-1 and Akeisha Ayanniyi (Santa Fe, NM sr) at 17-11.5 (all jumps 0.0 wind).
  • 6-4 boys’ high jump by Josh Onwardi (Corona del Sol jr), winning on misses over Michael Williams (Shadow Ridge sr), who cleared the same height.
Throws: Washington, Conlon reign supreme
  • 191-2 meet record boys’ discus throw by national leader (201-4 PR) Turner Washington (Canyon Del Oro jr), topping the Desert Vista duo of jr Elijah Mason at 180-3 and sr Torrey Hickel at 179-2.
  • US#9 meet record 45-8 shot put, 135-11 discus girls’ throws double by Kayleigh Conlon (Mountain Pointe jr), winning by seven-and-a-half feet in the shot and by a closer 2-feet, 6-inches over Sierra Rodriguez (Flowing Wells sr) in the discus.
  • US#2 192-7 boys’ javelin (exhibition event) by Carlan Naisant (Marcos de Niza soph), six feet up on older brother Marcus (186-1).
  • 57-7 boys’ shot put by Torrey Hickel (Desert Vista, AZ sr), just over a foot better than Joshua Hernandez (El Paso Del, TX sr) at 56-6.
Distances: Rainsberger eases into outdoor
  • 2:12.02 girls’ 800m run by newly crowned NBNI mile champ Katie Rainsberger (Air Academy, CO sr), finishing two seconds-plus ahead of a trio in the low 2:14s: Chantae Steele (Classical, CO fr) at 2:14.10, Renee Payne (Corona del Sol jr) at 2:14.26 and Morgan Foster (Chandler fr) at 2:14.42. 
  • US#1 4:55.79 girls’ 1-mile run for Allie Schadler (Rio Rico jr), with Baylee Jones (Desert Vista jr) and Tessa Weiss (Xavier Prep sr) also under 5:00 at 4:58.93 and 4:59.92, respectively.  Schadler was 3rd in the 2015 NBNO mile.
  • 4:16.65 boys’ 1-mile run for CSI alum Logan MacKay (Davis, UT sr), outkicking Brian Lujan (El Paso Americas, TX jr) at 4:17.07.  Seven others ran under 4:22.
  • 10:48.47 girls’ 3,200m run by Arena Lewis (Belen sr), taking a thriller over Haley Wolf (Desert Vista fr) at 10:48.84.
  • 9:15.23 boys’ 3,200m run by Daniel Bernal (El Paso East, TX sr), overcoming Jordan Lesansee (Albuquerque Academy, NM jr) at 9:16.85.
  • 1:55.22 boys’ 800m run for Steven Duran (St. Pius X sr), prevailing over Matt Candelaria (Coronado, CO jr) at 1:55.88.
Relays: Chandler girls win one, lose one
  • 47.10 4x100m relay by Mountain Pointe, winning a close battle with Chandler at 47.23 and with 3rd place more than two seconds back.
  • 42.02 boys’ 4x100m relay by Chandler, followed by Hamilton at 42.40, then Centennial, NV in 3rd at 42.73, ahead of several more sub-43s.
  • 3:51.02 girls’ 4x400m relay by Chandler, more than eight seconds up on North Canyon at 3:59.43.
  • 3:19.03 boys’ 4x400m relay by El Paso Franklin, TX, defeating Eleanor Roosevelt, CA at 3:20.62.
  • 9:30.78 girls’ 4x800 by Centennial, NV, with North Canyon, AZ also getting under 10:00 at 9:44.93 in 2nd.
  • 8:25.75 boys’ 4x800 by Hamilton, just over 3 seconds ahead of Corona del Sol and Desert Vista.
