TOP TEAMS: Clark leads Banneker boys; relays boost Cary girls
  • The boys’ team title for Banneker was simple: With Ryan Clark blasting to a 100/200 double, and anchoring both winning relays, the Georgia school got all 40 points it needed.  DeMatha Catholic MD was 2nd with 30, Mallard Creek NC 3rd at 26 and St. Xavier KY 4th with 25. 
  • The Cary, NC girls doubled the 4x400 and 4x800 relays for 20 of their 36 points, got 2nd in the 4x100 and Layla White – in on all three relays – was 3rd in the 400.  They were followed by Mallard Creek NC with 34, Elizabeth Seton MD with 30 and Baldwin GA with 27.

TOP HONORS: Super doubles for Clark, Cockrell; Boone and Camp lead on field
  • US#1 10.32(-0.7w) 100m dash, 20.75(-1.6w) 200m dash boys’ sprint double for Ryan Clark (Banneker, GA sr), along with his 4x100 and 4x400 anchors earning himself Boys Track Athlete of the Meet honors.  Clark nailed the 200 meet record and a =US#1 time in the prelims Friday with his 20.71(0.2w), then nearly beat it with the headwind Saturday.  His 100 was just .04 shy of Marcus Rowland’s 2008 meet record of 10.28.  Clark also anchored both Banneker 4x100 and 4x400 victories, the former with a stunning come-from-behind effort (see below).  Second in both races was defending champ Darryl Haraway (Dematha, MD sr) at US#3 10.48 and 21.65.
  • US#3 13.72(-2.1w) 100m hurdles, US#5 1:01.37 400m hurdles girls’ double by Anna Cockrell (Providence Day, NC jr), earning herself Girls Track Athlete of the Meet honors.  Anna was actually US#1 in the 100H until later in the day when two girls ran faster at the Arcadia Invite in California.  She defended her 400H title and moved up from 3rd in 2014 in the 100H.  Kylie McMillan (Southern Guilford, NC sr) was 2nd at 14.17 and Chinyere Njoku (Fayette Co., GA sr) 3rd at 14.40 in the 100s, while Imagine Patterson (Summerville, SC frosh) at 1:02.85 and Amaka Awuruonlye (Olympic, NC sr) at 1:03.39 followed in the 400H.
  • =US#1 20-4(-0.6w) meet record girls’ long jump by Daloria Boone (Baldwin, GA fr), earning herself Girls Field Athlete of the Meet honors.  She also ran on Baldwin’s winning 4x100m relay.  Boone was followed by Taylor DeLoach (St. Vincent’s, GA jr) at US#3 19-10(+0.0w) and Autumn Robinson (Elizabeth Seton, MD sr) at US#8 19-4(+1.9w).
  • US#3 190-4 boys’ discus throw by Ryan Camp (Archer, GA jr), earning himself Boys Field MVP honors and beating a deep field with five bettering 170 feet.  Bauvier Jackson (Broom, SC sr) was 2nd at US#7 185-10, Christian Buckley (Poca, WV sr) 3rd at 179-3 and Kenneth Brinson (Marist, GA sr) 4th at 178-8.

More SPRINTS/HURDLES: Fine double for Hill, too
  • 11.62(+-0.3w) 100m dash, 23.50(-0.1w) 200m dash girls’ sprint double by Candace Hill (Rockdale Co., GA so), duplicating her feat from last week’s Mobile Challenge of Champions.  Candace had run even faster for the 200 in Friday’s prelims, improving her US#1 to 23.49(1.5w) (she also is already US#1 in the 100 at 11.30).  In the 100, she was followed by Sydnei Murphy (Apex, NC sr) and Cedrina Singletary (Paxon, FL sr) at 11.94 and 11.96.  In the 200, it was Taylor DeLoach (St. Vincent’s, GA jr) and Singletary in the next two spots at 24.34 and 24.48.
  • US#3 54.47 boys’ 400m hurdles by Infinite Tucker (Huntington, NY jr), who came down from the Empire State to edge Dee Jennings (Clinton, SC sr) at US#4 54.67.  Olin Ravenel III (Fort Dorchester, SC jr) was 3rd at 55.34.
  • 54.88 girls’ 400m dash for Serenity Douglas (Archer, GA jr), outlasting Destiny Ward (Oscar Smith, VA so) and Layla White (Cary, NC sr) – with Ward nipping White for 2nd, 55.24 to 55.25.
  • 47.68 boys’ 400m dash for Deandre Daniels (Goose Creek, SC sr), finishing ahead of Malik Great (Pendleton, SC jr) at 48.07 and Breshard Cooper (Cedar Shoals, GA sr) at 48.41.  Daniels was also 3rd in the 200.
  • 14.01 boys’ 300m hurdles by Michael Dickson (Beaufort, SC sr), winning decisively over Keishaun Limehouse (Berkeley, SC jr) at 14.41 and Brent Carroll (Berry Acad., NC jr) at 14.64.

DISTANCES: Barton sets S.C. mark; E.C. Glass runners take two
  • 2:10.79 girls’ 800m run for Laurie Barton (Daniel, SC jr), pulling away for a big win with what is thought to be the fastest girls’ 800 time in South Carolina prep history.  She was followed by Malia Ellington (Davidson, NC sr) at 2:14.17 and Maddie McHugh (W.A. Hough sr) at 2:14.69.
  • 10:35.20 girls’ 3,200m run by Libby Davidson (E.C. Glass, VA soph), defending her 2014 title and less than four seconds off the meet record.  Kathleen Mansure (Watauga, NC sr) topped Morgan Ilse (Marist, GA sr) for 2nd, 10:44.26 to 10:45.51, while Malia Ellington (Davidson, NC sr) was 4th at 10:51.48.
  • 4:58.25 girls’ mile run by Ana Marian Bloch (Athens Acad., GA fr), holding off Libby Davidson (E.C. Glass, VA soph) – who had won the 3,200 earlier in the day.  Davidson ran 5:00.68, with Anna Vess (A. Reynolds jr) in 3rd at 5:03.72.
  • 4:18.62 boys’ mile run for Peter Seufer (E.C. Glass, VA sr), pulling away from William Mulloy (St. Xavier, KY sr) at 4:19.10 and Jacob Slann (Daniel, SC sr) at 4:19.43, and giving the Virginia school two distance victories on the day.
  • 1:55.32 boys’ 800m run by Devin Dixon (Eagles Landing, GA jr), outkicking Connor Peeples (Cardinal Gibbons, NC jr) at 1:56.53 and Henry Pehr (Green Hope, NC jr) at 1:57.32.
  • 9:16.61 boys’ 3,200m run for Logan Poteet (Kell, GA sr), leading almost wire-to-wire to defeat Frank Pittman (Marist, GA jr) at 9:19.84 and Zachary Marchinko (Carson, NC jr) at 9:22.22.

RELAYS: Crazy comeback win for Banneker boys’ 4x1; Cary girls double 4x4/4x8
  • 42.08 4x100m, 3:18.17 4x400m boys’ relay double for Banneker, GA.  The 4x100 saw Banneker senior Ryan Clark – the 100 and 200 champ – wow the big crowd with a jaw-dropping come-from-behind effort on the final leg, bringing Banneker from 4th place to beat Mallard Creek, NC at 42.10 and DeMatha Catholic, MD at 42.13.  In the 4x4, Banneker started pulling away on the 3rd leg and finished ahead of Huntington, NY at 3:21.99 and Cedar Shoals, GA at 3:22.02.
  • US#12 9:21.64 4x800m, meet-record-tying 3:48.99 4x400m girls’ 2-day relay double for Cary, NC.  Two other North Carolina teams took the next two 4x8 spots: Providence at 9:28.25 and Green Hope at 9:38.95.  In the 4x4, it was Maryland powers Elizabeth Seton at 3:51.89 and Bullis School at 3:54.36.
  • 7:54.72 boys’ 4x800m relay for St. Xavier, KY, taking a great battle with Cardinal Gibbons, NC at 7:56.22 and Weddington, NC at 7:56.24.
  • 46.89 girls’ 4x100m relay for Baldwin, GA, followed by Cary, NC at 47.43 and Elizabeth Seton, MD at 47.93.  Top-seeded Bullis School, MD had a baton drop and did not finish their section.

More THROWS: Dawson surges over 48 feet to U.S. top three
  • US#3 48-1 girls’ shot put for Khayla Dawson (Olympic, NC jr), more than three feet ahead of discus winner Alycia Springs (Mallard Creek, NC jr) at 44-11 and Carisma Holland (Seneca, SC soph) at 43-7.
  • 60-8.75 boys’ shot put by Christian Buckley (Poca, WV sr), prevailing by more than a foot over Marcus Abraham (Victory Christian sr) at 59-0.25 and Jake Glass (St. Xavier, KY sr) at 58-3.75.
  • 140-2 girls’ discus throw for Alycia Springs (Mallard Creek, NC jr), nearly 10 feet ahead of Julia Harrison (Athens Academy, GA so) at 130-7.  Shot winner Khayla Dawson (Olympic, NC jr) was 3rd at 127-8.

More JUMPS: Garrick, Pedersen thrill the crowd; big horizontals, too
  • US#5 (all-conditions) 40-4 girls’ triple jump for Sydnei Murphy (Apex, NC sr), winning by nearly a foot over Alexis Farley (Starr’s Mill, GA jr) at 39-5.  Makyla Stanley (James Island, SC) was 3rd at 37-9.  All girls triple jumps were NWI.
  • US#9 6-10 boys’ high jump by Chris Garrick (Marvin Ridge, NC), who struggled at 6-6 before a 3rd-attempt clearance, then soared over 6-8 and 6-10 on his first tries.  He finally went out at 7-0.  Richie Fince (Westwood sr) was 2nd at 6-4 and three others tied for 3rd at 6-2.
  • 16-5 boys’ pole vault for Drew Pedersen (Apex, NC sr), nailing a pair of PRs with at 16-1 and 16-5.  Marshall Shank (East Rowan, NC sr), Pedersen’s teammate Michael Utecht, and Bailey Frederick (Marvin Ridge, NC jr) all hit 15-0, but finished 2-3-4, respectively, based on misses.
  • 48-0.5 boys’ triple jump for Jeremiah Holloman (Newton, GA so), ruling by more than a foot.  Steve Fossi-Nuve (Mallard Creek, NC jr) and Deon Haraway (DeMatha Catholic, MD sr) both leapt 46-10.5, but Fossi-Nuve was 2nd with a better 2nd-best jump.
  • 23-11 boys’ long jump by Denzel Harper (Stephenson, GA jr), taking it by just over six inches from Desmond Anderson (Broome, SC sr) at 23-4.5.  Josiah Johnson (Ft. Dorchester, SC sr) was 3rd at 23-1.5.  All boys long jumps were NWI.
  • 12-6 girls’ pole vault for Amanda Barnes (Beaufort, SC jr), beating Becky Arbiv (The Weber School, GA so) on misses, also at 12-6.  Much of a deep field struggled with the winds, as Chesney Ward (Ragsdale, NC jr) was 3rd at 12-0, and 13-footers Anna Eaton (Apex, NC sr) 4th (also 12-0) and Kathryn Tomczyk (Lafayette, VA) 5th (11-6).
  • 5-6 girls’ high jump for Asia Green (Fayette Co, GA jr), followed by Kayla Nesbit-McEwen (High Point, NC so) at 5-4 and three others at 5-2.
