NSAF On-Site at TX state meet Friday: 2 US#1s, 10 US top 3s

Top national class performances

  • US#1 40.41 4x100m, US#2 conference record 1:24.26 4x200m boys’ 4A sprint relay double for the Texarkana Texas team of Jacorian Walker, Treveon Walker, Travonne Monk and Kevin Harris (both races). In the 4x1, they nipped Lancaster at US#2 40.45 in a stunning race that also saw Brenham at US#4 40.65 and Summer Creek at US#6 40.85 go under 41.  In the 4x2 – missing US#1 by only .02 – they won another close race, this time beating Fort Bend Marshall at US#3 1:24.47, with Nacogdoches 3rd at US#6 1:25.16.  The 4x2 record Texarkana (and FBM) beat was 1:24.89 by Lancaster two years ago.
  • US#1 13.63(+1.0w) 110m hurdles, US#3 36.34 300mH boys’ 4A hurdles double for Kendall Sheffield (Fort Bend Marshall junior).  In the 110s, he powered to a .33 victory over Vance O’Rear (Amarillo) at 13.96 and junior teammate Amere Lattin at 14.03.  In the 300s, Jalen Hunter (Dentor Guyer senior) and Norman Grimes (Canyon soph) were also under 37 at 36.72 and 36.73.
  • US#2 24-10.75 boys’ 4A long jump by Anthula Kelly (Galena Park senior), winning on his 5th attempt with a 9-inch PR.  24-footer Brett Winnegan (Pearland Dawson junior) was 2nd at 23-11.75w(+2.4) and David Moritz (Cedar Park senior) 3rd at 23-5.75w(+3.2)..
  • 2:09.27 800m run, 4:54.06 1,600 girls’ 4A distance double for Kaitlin Rodriguez (Canyon senior).  Rodriguez, who was already US#2 at 2:07.68  in the 800, also ran a leg on the runner-up 4x400.  Three others broke 5:00 in the 1,600, including 3,200 runner-up Evelyn Chavez (New Caney Porter senior) at 4:55.15 and 3,200 champ Natalie Rathjen (Dallas Highland Park senior) at 4:56.15.  Lauren Landry (Lubbock Mont junior) and Kristyn Williams (Richmond Foster junior) were 2-3 in the 800 at 2:10.79 and 2:10.88.
  • US#3 20.92(+1.5w) boys’ 200m dash for Kevin Harris (Texarkana Texas senior), nipping Aaron Sharp (Summer Creek senior) at US#6 20.97.  Two others went under 21.10 in the deep race: Dionte Robinson (Baytown Lee senior) at 21.06 and Elijah Morrow (Waller senior) at 21.09.  Harris also ran on his school’s winning 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
  • US#3 46.81 boys’ 4A 400m dash by Steven Champlin (Medina Valley senior), outlasting 3-time defending state champ Chris Platt (Willis senior) at US#6 46.95.  Wilbert London (Waco junior) was 3rd at 47.66.
  • US#3 (all-conditions) 10.32w(+2.1) boys’ 100m dash by KD Cannon (Mount Pleasant senior), winning decisively over Ryan Newsome (Aledo) at 10.51 – with three others within .04.
  • US#4 1:51.27 boys’ 800m run by Jeffrey Moore (Carrollton Smith senior), followed by Jaqwae’ Ellison (Georgetown junior) at 1:52.69 and Michael Johnson (San Elizario junior) 1:53.05.
  • =US#5 7-0 boys’ 4A high jump for Carl Williams (Aledo senior), six inches ahead of Kena Nwangwu (Frisco Heritage soph) and three others at 6-6.
  • US#8 17-0 boys’ 4A pole vault for Audie Wyatt (Huntsville senior), a 6-inch PR and beating 17-footer Noah Gilfillan (Corsicana senior), who went 16-3.
  • 190-6 boys’ 4A shot put by Anthony Dudley (El Paso Parkland), winning by 10 feet over Josh Burrell (FB Ridge Point senior) at 180-6.  Dudley, who was just off his US#5 195-7 PR, had earlier been 2nd in the shot after coming in as the favorite there, too.

More strong doubles

  • 9:14.34 3,200m run, 4:15.05 1,600 boys’ 4A distance double by Carter Blunt (Frisco Heritage soph).  In the 1,600, he used a sub-60 last lap to outkick Steven Galli (Dripping Springs) at 4:15.71.  In the 3,200 Blunt finished the last 800 in about 2:09 as he won by more than nine seconds over Hassan Abdi (Amarillo Palo Duro senior) at 9:23.96.
  • 19-5.75w(+2.7) long jump, US#7 40-8.5(+1.1w) triple jump girls’ 4A double for Asa Garcia (Texas City junior).  She won a close LJ, coming from behind and despite only two fair jumps, over Kiana Hawn (Forney senior) at 19-4.25.  The TJ was fairly close, too, with Haley Polk (Frisco Heritage soph) taking 2nd at 40-4(+1.9w).  Again Garcia had only two fair jumps, but her winner came on the first attempt.
  • 1:38.57 4x200m and 3:47.75 4x400m girls’ 4A relay double by Lancaster.  The 4x2 team consisted of Destiny Washington, Alicia Harris, Alexis Flores and Janae Garrett, while the 4x4 was Garrett, Flores, Harris and Taylor Rockwell.  In the 4x2, Lancaster was followed by Denton Guyer 1:39.09 and Arlington Seguin 1:39.20, while it was Canyon 3:50.72 and McKinney Noth 3:52.53 trailing in the 4x4.
  • 47.18 4x100m and 1:40.08 4x200m girls’ 2A conference record sprint relay double by Rosebud-Lott.  In both relays, it was the team of Roxanne Lucas Teandria Taylor, Keauna Whitfield and Keandria Taylor getting the victories.
  • 144-10 discus, 49-0 shot put girls’ 4A double for Haley Teel (Gregory-Portland senior).  She won by more than 15 feet in the discus (Brielle Brown 128-3) and almost six feet in the shot (Jacquetta Cannon 43-1.5).
  • 57-0 shot put, 170-10 discus 2A boys’ throws double for Ryan Simmons (Salado senior).  He was followed in the shot by Tavaris Owens (Whitney senior) at 56-2, then in the discus by Andrew Perez (Taft) at 163-5.
  • 9:27.89 3,200m run, 4:26.18 1,600 boys’ 2A distance double for Wyatt Kieler (East Bernard).  In the 32, he was less than two seconds off the conference record.  In both races, Kieler was trailed by Ryan Flores (Luling), 2nd at 9:30.71 and 4:27.79.
  • 11:14.26 3,200m run, 5:08.35 1,600 girls’ 2A distance double by Ann Marie Dunlap (Crawford senior).

More top performances

  • 10:23.92 girls’ 4A conference record 3,200 run for Natalie Rathjen (Highland Park senior), helping erase the memory of an allergies-induced DNF in 2013.  She won by more than 18 seconds over Evelyn Chavez (Porter senior) 10:42.66, with Abby Gray (Alamo Heights soph) 3rd at 10:53.50.
  • 41.61 boys’ 2A 4x100m relay by Rosebud-Lott team of Juwon Roberson, D.J. Johnson, Artis Johnson and Andrew Moore.  They won with room to spare over Daingerfield at 41.94, with Newton 3rd at 41.98.  Rosebud was just .01 away from a sprint relay sweep as they were 2nd in the 4x200 at 1:26.95.  Moore was also the 100 champ and 3rd in the LJ.
  • 10.61w(+2.1) boys’ 2A 100m dash by Andrew Moore (Rosebud-Lott senior), outrunning Devon Sanders (Clarksville senior) at 10.67 and Aaron Sims (Cameron Yoe junior) at 10.78.  Moore was also the anchor on the winning 4x100 and runner-up 4x200, and 3rd in the LJ.
  • 6-11 boys’ 2A high jump for Joseph (Ty) Anderson, just off his PR 7-0.  He beat fellow 7-footer William Adams (Buffalo senior), who scaled 6-10, and Jalen Blanton (Scurry-Rose) at 6-8.  Anderson tried and missed a conference record 7-1.
  • 13.82(+0.5w) girls’ 4A 100m hurdles by Kiana Hawn (Forney senior), ahead of Tonea Marshall (Arlington Seguin soph) at 14.07 and Samantha Gonzalez (Creekview senior) at 14.19.  Hawn was also 2nd in the long jump.
  • 41.83 girls’ 300m hurdles by Samantha Gonzalez (Creekview junior), winning by more than a second over Friddaus Amadu (Kingwood Park junior) at 43.44 and Selena Wright (Elgin soph) at 43.69.  Gonzalez was also 3rd in the 100H.
  • 11.71(+0.7w) girls’ 4A 100m dash by Tramesha Hardy (Sheldon King senior), winning decisively over Melicha Smith (Texas City junior) at 11.92 and Deana Richardson (Brennan junior) at 11.94.
  • 48-8(-0.9w) boys’ 4A triple jump for NSAF Project Triple Jumper KeAndre Bates (El Paso Burges senior), with four jumps over 48 and beating Kaylon Sellers (Beaumont Ozen senior) – whose one fair jump was 47-6.5w(+2.9).
  • 13-0 girls’ 4A pole vault by Emily Gunderson (Mont Bel Bar senior) and Sarah Hall (Azle senior), with Gunderson winning on misses.  Meghan Gray (Buda Hays junior) was 3rd with 12-9.
  • 56-0.5 boys’ 4A shot put for Guillermo Galvan (Veterans Memorial senior), scoring a big upset over top-seeded 63-footer Anthony Dudley (El Paso Parkland senior) – who was 2nd at 55-4 with four fouls.
  • 3:16.46 boys’ 4A 4x400m relay by Summer Creek, just nipping McKinney North at 3:16.51 and with Baytown Lee 3rd at 3:17.40.
  • 46.67 girls’ 4A 4x100m relay by Texas City, edging Pearland Dawson at 46.77 and Denton Guyer at 46.79.
  • 1:26.94 boys’ 2A 4x100m relay by Daingerfield team of Denzil Mims, Calvin Bryant, Jordan Miles and Keynon Whetstone, winning by. 01 over 4x100 champs Rosebud-Lott.  They were also 2nd to Rosebud in the 4x1.
  • 6-10 boys’ 3A high jump for Shonderius Howard (Lampasas), with 7-footer Mylie Kerley (Taylor senior) 2nd at 6-9 and Jeffery Minor (Chapel Hill junior) 3rd at 6-8.
  • 23-8.5(-0.2w) boys’ 3A long jump by Jay Bradford (Splendora junior), triumphing on his last attempt over Charles Brown (WF Hirschi junior) at 23-7.25(+0.6w).
  • 5-8 girls’ 4A high jump by Courtney Johnson (Schertz Clemens senior), winning by four inches over four others.
  • 55.76 girls’ 4A 400m dash by Teona Spivey (Willis soph), beating Bryanah Rideaux (Summer Creek junior) at 55.94 and Taylor Rockwell (Lancaster junior) at 56.09.
  • 24.59(+1.3w) girls 4A 200m dash by Glorilisha Carter (Bastrop junior), nipping Danille Leaks (Wolfforth Frensh soph) at 24.61.

Conference 3A Boys

  • 3200: Jacob Perry (Sanger senior) outkicked defending champ Taylor Clayton (Decatur senior) in the last lap, 9:30.73 to 9:33.45, with Sam Farrell (Lufkin Hudson junior) a close 3rd at 9:34.12.

Conference 3A Girls

  • 3200: Kelsie Warren (College Station junior) defended her 2013 title with an 11:15.86 victory, prevailing by almost 15 seconds.

Conference 2A Boys

  • LJ: Kaine Blake (Life Red Oak junior) spanned 22-11.75(+1.3w), just beyond the 22-11.25(+0.5w) of Christopher Charleston (Eddy Bruceville junior), with 100 champ Andrew Moore (Rosebud-Lott senior) 3rd at 22-7(+0.8w).
  • PV: Hagen Stoute (Wall junior) and Colton Labay (Cameron Yoe senior) each soared over 15-9, with Stoute winning on misses.  Jaden Dement (Clyde senior) took 3rd at 15-6.
  • TJ:  DaVonte Steele (Marlin) leapt 47-0.75(+1.1w) on his final attempt, narrowing overtaking Jordon Nelson (Tatum junior) at 46-11.75(+0.1w).
  • 800: Cody Hammonds (Warren senior) edged Guy Butts (Whitesboro senior), 1:54.65 to 1:54.72.
  • 110H: Jaylen Shans-Sheppard (Tatum senior) won in 14.43(+1.1w), ahead of Dalton Stidham (Boyd senior) 14.56 and J.R. Sullivan (Olton senior) 14.61 – with two more at 14.65.
  • 400: Paul Kinney (Karnes City) ran 48.31, with Austin Sandoval (Crane) edging Dlance Sharp (Commerce junior) for 2nd, 48.61 to 48.62.
  • 300H: Cameron Wolf (Spearman junior) clocked 38.38, ahead of Anastascio Munoz (Sonora) at 38.54 and William Adams (Buffalo senior) at 38.58.
  • 200: Austin Sandoval (Crane senior), the 400 runner-up, won here in 21.62(+1.8w), beating 100 runner-up Devon Sanders (Clarksville senior) at 21.67 and Artis Johnson (Rosebud-Lott senior) at 21.79.
  • 4x400: The Sonora team of Jonathan Zook, Will Dutton, Rickey Martinez and Anastascio Munoz won with 3:22.72, followed by Whitesboro at 3:23.27 and Tatum at 3:23.53.

Conference 2A Girls

  • DT: Whitney Kitchen (Hawley junior) threw 140-2 to win by more than 15 feet.
  • SP: Rachel Hildebrand (Salado senior) heaved it 39-10, followed by Julisa Williams (Woodville senior) at 39-5.25.

Conference 1A-DI Boys

  • PV: Reed Rightmer (Flatonia) and Tyler Turner (Hico senior) both cleared 15-9, with Rightmer winning on misses.  Greyson Gonzalez (Bosqueville junior) was 3rd at 15-6.
  • SP: Kyle Weiss threw 54-7 to lead a 1-2-3 sweep for Panhandle seniors.  He was followed by teammates Tanner Barnett at 54-1.5 and Luke Amos at 52-10.5.
  • LJ: Justin Twine (Falls City) leapt 22-11.75(+0.6w) and won by nearly a foot.
  • HJ: Blaine Listach (Waco Meyer) – coming in at a US#2 7-1 – cleared just 6-6, but got the win over two others at 6-4.

Conference 1A-DI Girls

  • SP: Brie Dewbre (Morton junior) threw 41-9.25, edging Toni Brown (Dallas Gateway) at 41-7.

Conference 1A-DII Boys

  • 3200: Joseph Carrasco (Sanderson junior) clocked a conference record 9:56.30 for a 17-second margin over Michael Perez (Rule senior), whose 10:13.58 was also under the year-old standard.
  • HJ: Luke Killough (Utopia) leapt a conference record 6-3 to beat two others at 6-2.

Conference 1A-DII Girls

  • 3200: Kamie Halfmann (Garden City senior) ran a conference record 11:28.10 to win by 9+ seconds over Kaitlin Bell (O’Donnell soph), whose 11:37.39 also broke the year-old mark.
