NSAF On-Site: 10 US#1s at big Armory Collegiate throwdown

HIGHLIGHTS

  • DOUBLE US#1s: Union Catholic (Scotch Plains, NJ) boys 3:16.12 (#8 all-time) 4x400 on Friday, then 1:28.02 4x200 on Saturday.  In the 4x400, they had an overpowering final two legs, with Jordan Jimerson moving from well back in 3rd to well ahead in 1st, then Taylor McLaughlin anchoring.  US#2 3:20.31 for Boys & Girls (Brooklyn, NY) in 2nd.  Jimerson and McLaughlin ran the first two legs in the 4x200, with McLaughlin taking the lead.  Mt. St. Michael (NY) US#4 1:29.48 in second.
  • US#1 33.50 boys’ 300 (#7 all-time) by Zyaire Clemes (Trenton Central, NJ senior), surging away from Anton Porter (Mt St Michael, Bronx, NY junior) 34.10 and Rai Benjamin (Mt Vernon, NY junior) 34.11, as five ran 34.40 or faster.
  • US#1 7:44.52 boys’ 4x800 (#11 all-time) by Blacksburg (VA), taking over for good on the second leg with a sizzling 1:53.6 by Jacob McCoy.  1k winner Kenneth Hagen anchored in 1:52.8.  US#2 7:50.98 in 2nd for Cardinal O’Hara (Philadelphia, PA), as they outkicked Christian Brothers (Lincroft, NJ) US#3 7:51.57.  Eight ran 8:00 or faster.
  • US#1 78-06.25 boys’ weight throw (#11 all-time) by Adam Kelly (Barrington, RI junior), winning by more than 10 feet over Joseph Segreto (South Huntington, ) US#7 68-0.25.  Seven threw at least 64 feet.
  • US#1 1:30.58 girls’ 600 (#11 all-time) Friday by Olivia Baker (Columbia Maplewood, NJ senior) pulling away from defending champ Emma Gallagher (Garden City, NY junior) US#2 1:32.13.  Top four times of the year as Yazmin Wilson-Jones (Port Richmond, Staten Island, NY senior) and Erin Jaskot (Tappen Zee, Orangeburg, NY senior) ran 1:32.86 and 1:32.92 in 3rd and 4th.
  • US#1 2:26.94 boys’ 1,000 Friday by Kenneth Hagen (Blacksburg, VA senior), as he launched a huge last lap kick (27+ split) to pull away.  US#3 2:27.75 for early leader Brian Cook (Pearl River, NY senior) in 2nd and US#6 2:28.22 for Ryan Thomas (Albemarle, Charlottesville, VA senior) in 3rd.  Six broke 2:30, all landing in US top 9.
  • US#1 3:47.30 girls’ 4x400 by Columbia Maplewood (NJ), winning by more than seven seconds over Paul Robeson (PA) US#5 3:54.32 and Uniondale (NY) US#7 3:55.01.
  • US#1 9:08.97 girls’ 4x800 by Benjamin Cardozo (Bayside, NY), pulling away in second half and winning by more than six seconds over previous #1 Freehold Township (NJ) US#2 9:15.32 and West Springfield (VA) US#3 9:16.42.  Caroline Alcorta ran a 2:09.3 second leg for West Springfield, temporarily taking the lead.
  • US#1 1:39.36 girls’ 4x200 by New Rochelle (NY), improving their national leader by .03.  Cheltenham (PA) had crossed the line first, but was DQ’d for cutting in early.  US#6 1:41.66 for Paul Robeson (PA) in 2nd.
  • 1:19.55 boys’ 600 by Richard Rose (Boys & Girls, Brooklyn, NY junior), who was already US#1 with 1:19.55, as he controlled the race after the first lap.  US#2 1:20.23 by Joe Luongo (St. Johns’ Prep, Danvers, MA junior) in 2nd and US#5 1:20.67 for Jeffery Wiseman (Council Rock South, Holland, PA senior) in 3rd.
  • US#3 2:51.71 girls’ 1,000 by Gabrielle Wilkinson (Mt. Airy TC, PA 8th-grader), beating Canadians Claire Smith (Ottawa) 2:52.45 and Erinn Stenman-Fahye (Canterbury) 2:52.56.  There were 11 girls under 2:58 total, with Ellison Grove (Battlefield, Haymarket, VA senior) US$4 2:53.53 and Macy Schweikert (Robinson, Fairfax VA, senior) US#5 2:53.81 in 4th and 5th.
  • US#4 38.65 girls’ 300 by Zola Golden (Arlington, LaGrangeville, junior), overcoming Toni Brown (Milford Mill Acad., Baltimore, MD senior) US#6 38.97 and Sydney McLaughlin (Union Catholic, Scotch Plains, NJ frosh) 39.51.
  • US#8 53-3 girls weight throw by Alva Hicks (Classical, Providence RI junior), beating Leia Mistowski (Narragansett, RI senior) 52-7.25 and Taniya Mitchell (Mt. Vernon, NY senior) US#10 52-1.75.
