GIRLS

Asonya Anderson (Heritage, Newport News, VA) again broke 7.0 in the 55m, winning her district meet in 6.99.

Tyra Lea (Wakefield, Raleigh, NC) led her team to another state title in winning the 300m at the NC 4A meet in 38.76.  That’s #4 US, and #1 on a flat track.  At that same meet, Layla White (Cary, NC), improved her #4 US performance with a 1;14.94 win in the 500m.

Amy-Eloise Neal (Glacier Peak, Snohomish, WA) became the first sub-2:10 800m runner in the nation, running 2:09.15 for fourth in an open completion at the U. of Washington’s oversized track.  At the SPIRE high school meet in Geneva, OH, also on an oversized track, Lauren Burnett (Dakota, Macomb, MI) bested Therese Haiss (Solon, OH), 2:10.06 to 2:11.28.  Carolyn Bethel (Hidden Valley, Roanoke, VA) backed up her US #2 time with a 2:53.04 state regional victory, that on a flat track.

Sophie Chase (Lake Braddock, Burke, VA) won her district meet in a US #3 4:48.68 (1600m).  Soph Bella Burda (Arlington, La Grangeville, NY) surprised with a big 3000m performance at her state sectional meet, running 9:33.9 for US #2.  Katie Lembo (Penfield, NY) had a fine 9:50.49, US #4, at an invitational near Rochester.

The big news in the hurdle world was the US #2 all-time 60m hurdle time of 8.17 at a meet at the Colorado School of Mines for junior Dior Hall (Washington, Denver, CO).  She is only .01 behind the national record, with at least 2 meets to go in the indoor season.  Hunter Roberts (Southwest Guilford, Greensboro, NC) ran 8.10 for 55m hurdles at the NC 4A meet, =#5 US.  That race saw 8.11-8.11-8.13 for places 2-3-4.

Grosse Point South (MI) had a monster DMR in their home state, running 11:37.11, #3 all-time.  The Meier twins, Haley and Hannah, were the bookends, and the indication is that they can run significantly faster.

Soph Cyre Virgo (Fleetwood, PA) burst on the scene with a 5-9 high jump at the Albright Invitational, #2 US.  Keturah Orji (Mt. Olive, Flanders, NJ) leaped 19-9 at the Varsity Classic, =#2 US.

And Gabby Figueroa (Austintown Fitch, Youngstown, OH) backed up her US leading 58-11 weight throw with a 56-07.5 win at the SPIRE high school meet.
