Here's a look at the indoor track and field action from this past weekend.

GIRLS

Hannah Cunliffe (Decatur, Federal Way, WA) won the U of Washington Invitational 60m with a US #2 7.44.  Texas A+M-bound Aaliayah Brown (Lincoln Way East, New Lenox, IL) won the Arkansas Inv 200 in =#2 US 24.58.

Precious Holmes (Hillhouse, New Haven, CT) and Tyra Lea (Wakefield, Raleigh, NC) impressed on flat tracks with fast 300 meter performances.  Holmes won Dartmouth in 39.30 (#3 US) and Lea the Suffolk Stars meet in Hampton, VA in 39.36 (#4 US).  Those times are probably worth a second faster on banked tracks.

London Freeland (Dunbar, Washington, DC) got a #2 US time in the 500m (1:15.33) in winning the Montgomery Inv at the PG Sports and Learning Complex.    Sydney Hayes (Mc Donogh, Owings Mills, MD) was second in 1:16.26.  Kendell Wyles (Blacksburg, VA) won the Liberty Flames Inv in Lynchburg, VA in a US #4 1:16.08.

Emma Gallagher (Garden City, NY) won the Stanner Games 600m in a US #1 1:30.97.  Haley Meier (South, Grosse Pointe, MI) and Lauren Burnett (Dakota, Macomb, MI) had a great battle in the 800m in their home state with Meier running 2:11.85 and Burnett .04 back.

A good mile battle at the Arkansas Inv saw Courtney Kriegshauser (Carroll, Southlake, TX) over soph Rebekah Topham (Griswold, IA) 4:55.28 to 4:55.29, US #4 and #5.

The big news in the 3000m, of course, was the best ever high school 3000m by junior Mary Cain (Bronxville, NY) of 9:02.10.  It will not count as a national indoor record since it was run on an oversized track.  Well behind in 8th was Katie Knight (North Central, Spokane, WA) with a fine 9:36.23.  Bethanie Brown (Waterville, ME) won the Dartmouth 2 Mile in 10:42.32, US #4.

Sasha Wallace (Holy Names, Oakland, CA) opened her season with an extremely fast 8.31 60m hurdles.  It is the US leader and #7 all-time.

Wakefield (Raleigh, NC) won the Suffolk Stars 4x200 in 1:42.81 and the 4x400 in 3:55.50 (US #1).  Grosse Point South (MI) took the lead in the 4x800 at the same meet as Haley Meier ran the 800m, running 9:24.09.

Hillhouse (New Haven, CT) won Dartmouth SMR in 4:07.05.  Columbia (Maplewood, NJ) edged Lenape (NJ) in the NJ Group IV Relays sprint medley, 4:10.34 to 4:10.36.   In the same meet, Lenape took the US lead in the DMR, running 12:18.76.  Mendham, NJ won the Group III version of the relays in a US #2 12:19.58.  La Salle (Providence, RI) won Dartmouth in 12:19.63, and Veterans Memorial (Peabody, MA) won the Massachusetts Division I relays in 12:20.04.

Junior Brianna Hayes (Matoaca, Chesterfield, VA) took the US lead in the high jump, scaling 5-10 at the Suffolk Stars meet.  This year’s crop of pole vaulters continued to impress with Lakan Taylor (Boswell, Forth, TX) and Annie Rhodes (Midway, Waco, TX) both clearing 13-6 at the Arkansas Inv.

Chyna Ries (Washington, Denver, CO) became the fifth 19-footer of the year in winning the Fort Collins TC Inv at 19-1.5.  Sasha Wallace took the US lead in the Triple Jump at the U of W Inv, jumping 40-3.

Briyah Brown (New Rochelle, NY) joined the 45’ club with a US #2 45-1 at the Stanner Games.  Junior Gabby Figueroa (Austintown Fitch, Youngstown, OH) took the US lead in the weight throw with a 58-11 toss at the Youngstown State High School Inv.

BOYS

The 55 meters continues to see impressive performances by underclassmen, as the top 5 are occupied by four juniors and a soph.  Vincent Lowe (Grassfield, Chesapeake, VA) won the Suffolk Stars meet in US #2 6.39.  Soph Marcus Taylor (Highland Springs, VA) was second in 6.41.  Jahmaal Daniel (Terry Sanford, Fayetteville, NC) won the JDL Minimeet #3 in Winston-Salem with 6.40, US #3.  Bryce Starks (Union, Tulsa, OK) won the Arkansas Inv 60m with a US #4 time of 6.93.

Maury Sall (Pikesville, Baltimore, MD), already US #2 in the 500m at 1:04.13, won the Montgomery Inv in 1:04.44, with Nate Gainey (Mt. Hebron, Ellicott City, MD) second in 1:05.42.  Chris Ibarra (Atlanta, TX) won the Arkansas Inv 800m in a fine 1:52.54.  There are now 5 US high schoolers between 1:51.18 and 1:52.55 in the 800m so far this year.

Sean Mc Gorty (Chantilly, VA) won the Liberty Flames 1000m in 2:30.24 after having won the 1600m in a US leading 4:11.56.  Amos Bartelsmeyer (Mary Institute/Country Day, St. Louis, MO) won the Arkansas Inv in 4:13.26, US #2.

Grant Holloway (Grassfield, Chesapeake, VA) equalled the National Freshman record of 7.40 in the preliminary heats at Suffolk Stars meet.   He now coholds it with Johnny Dutch (Clayton, NC) who ran that time in 2004.  Jordan Martin (Bishop Mc Namara, Forestville, MD) won the DCIAA Inv 55m hurdles in 7.42, =#3 US.  Aaron Mallett (Mc Cluer North, Florissant, MO) won the Arkansas Inv 60mH in a US #2 8.00.
