American Independent Schools Preview

American Independent Schools Championships

The boys Championship race will be quite interesting. It will almost be a rematch of the Wolfpack Invitational of September 18. The leading entrant is Scott Morgan of Calvary Baptist (Winston-Salem, NC), the Wolfpack Invitational winner in 15:14, equal #4 all-time on the course. He'll be running against Thomas Graham of Cary Academy (Cary, NC), third in that race at 15:28.6 and Bobby Mintz of Cary Christian (Cary, NC) who was sixth at 15:41.8. Also running will be Edward Cheserek of St. Benedict's HS (Newark, NJ), a sophomore who spent most of his life in an orphanage in Kenya. He began running for the team this fall and has managed to stay in the lead pack with the best runners in the northeast in recent races. (An interesting story about Edward Cheserek: http://www.nj.com/hssports/blog/boyscrosscountry/index.ssf/2010/08/a_new_star_has_arrived.html )

(This is the first year for the American Independent Schools Championship. Though the first year appears to be modest in scope, it does have schools from North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and New Jersey competing).
